Author, activist, and the granddaughter of Nelson Mandela, Zoleka Mandela has passed away after a battle with cancer.
According to a statement released by the family, Zoleka died after being admitted to hospital on 18 September for ongoing treatment for cancer of the hip, liver, lung, pelvis, brain and spinal cord.
The statement said that recent scans had revealed significant disease progression, including lung fibrosis and several emboli (blood clots).
On September 17, Zoleka took to Instagram to share that she had a CT scan administered which revealed blood clots and fibrosis on her lungs.
“This explains the chest pains I had been feeling. My medical oncologist has recommended blood thinners and oral chemo,” Zoleka posted
