Two mine workers shot dead while waiting for a bus

Two mineworkers have been shot and killed in Welkom, Free State, the police have confirmed.

EWN reports that the miners were on their way to work on Wednesday morning when they were shot while waiting for a bus.

The Police say that the bkkie carrying armed men stopped Near them and started to open fire and fled away from the scene.

Two men died on the scene, however, the criminals were targeting to kill five miners. Confirmed the Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Motantsi.

“There were two miners that were taken to hospital with gunshot wounds. There was also one who was assaulted and he was also taken to hospital. Police are presently investigating cases of murder and attempted murder.”
