All campuses of the Tshane University are closed with immediate effect following the continued protests in the campuses.
Students protested from Monday 4 March demanding meal allowances for off-campus residing students. The allowance issues are controlled and management by the NSFAS offices. Students were told that only students who reside in the institution’s residence will receive meal allowances. This was not the case for previous years.
The university requested students to vacate residences for their safety while they find a solution to the current problems in the institution.
“The safety of the students, staff and TUT property on all campuses remains management’s first priority, therefore, due to the volatility and unpredictability of the current situation, the University had no choice but to close academic activities for students, until further notice, in order to allow the situation to calm down.”  the institution said in a statement.
“Management appreciates the support and will continue to engage with DHET, NSFAS and other important role-players towards resolving the current situation.”
Scheduled graduation ceremonies will continue as planned.
