On Monday fuel prices were hiked for the Second time withinn a week in Zimbabwe. The price is going up from ZWL6.10 to ZWL7.47 per litre, while diesel will costs 7.19 a litre.
Economic analysts say increases in fuel prices are adding to price pressures, especially as rolling electricity cuts are forcing businesses to use expensive diesel generators to power their operations.
Private equity specialist Tendai Manyange has criticized the government for continuing to subsidize fuel importation into the country.
“How long is government going to subsidize petrol/diesel for, until the tapes run dry? Govt is making political decisions with ZERO economic sense… there is no reason why fuel in Zimbabwe should be the cheapest in the region,”
