Busisiwe Mkhwebane, the public protector is taking blows from almost all political players. Just in February she survived removal from office following a majority vote by the portfolio committee. In 2017 Parliament ministers, ANC, pulled back from a first proposed review of her fitness for this office.
Having been embroiled in a spat with minister Gordhan about the cases she is busy dealing with, Mkhwebame is said to be involving herself in cases that are on the hands of the National Prosecuting Authority, the Hawks and the Nugget Commission. She responded by taking to social media and defended herself and explained why she took such decisions.
“It seems like more and more people are focusing their attention on the role of the public protector these days. And the stakes are too high. People are sensitive to corruption in the country.” Says former public protector Lawrence Mushwana.
