Seven police officers have been arrested on Wednesday after a raid on counterfeit goods and illegal trading in the Johannesburg CBD.

Five police officers were apprehended for allegedly attempting to sell seized counterfeit goods back to illegal traders, these police officers in question are facing charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
In another incident, two members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) were arrested for allegedly tipping off the illegal traders about the planned operation, this resulted in cargo being removed from the scene the night before the raid.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Elias Mawela had this to say:
“We certainly hope that the arrests of seven of our own will prove to the people of Gauteng that we are serious about eradicating crime, even if it means arresting our own. No one is above the law.”
Counterfeit goods and weapons were seized and undocumented foreigners arrested as police raided buildings in the Johannesburg CBD.
