The National Student Financial Aid(NSFAS) has on Wednesday confirmed that three employees have been arrested in Cape Town for allegedly transferring students money into their personal accounts.

The staffers were arrested on Tuesday at the NSFAS Wynberg office.

“The employees were all arrested on allegations of fraud relating to diverting student allowances to their personal accounts,” said a statement issued on behalf of Dr Randall Carolissen, NSFAS executive administrator.

Carolissen further stated that NSFAS is working with the authorities, who are investigating the matter.

He also advised that the best way to apply for NSFAS funding is through a smartphone. “If you are not able to apply or do not have a smartphone, you are safe to approach the National Youth Development Agency office, or the Vodacom Teacher Training and Development Centre for assistance”
NSFA’s purpose is to help those who cannot afford the fees of one of the 26 public universities or 50 technical and vocational education and training colleges.

To report any fraud, call Toll-free number 0860 247 653, SMS ‘Call-back’ to 30916, or email nsfas@thehotline.co.za.
