A month after Zandile Gumeds was sacked as eThekwini mayor, the Hawks together with Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) raided her supposed home in KwaZulu Natal, KwaMhlanga, earlier on Thursday.

This follows her long battle with the courts over corruption charges which saw Gumede and three other mayors redeployed into other capacities as ANC servants.

Gumede’s home was not the only one that received a surprised visit from the Hawks but there were among others Mondli Mthembu, former councillor, Zandile Ngcobo, former eThekwini supply chain and businessman, Robert Aboo. The AFU said more than 10 properties were to be raided and over R51m in assets were to be seized.
However, Gumede has not been residing at that property since July.

It would appear that she was violating her bail conditions as she provided that same address to the court while not staying there. Gumede’s charges include allegations of fraud to the amount of R208 million, recketeering and corruption related to a tender in Durban
