Former estate agent Vicki Momberg, who was jailed for a racist rant, has been released from prison.
Her lawyer has confirmed her release to Netwerk24 but said he was not sure of the reasoning behind the decision.
The Department of Correctional Services also confirmed that she was released on Friday.
The” inmate in question was released from custody today, after having reached her sentence expiry date, following the special remission of sentence announced by President Ramaphosa on 16 December 2019,” said Department of Correctional Service Deputy Commissioner, Logan Maistry.
Momberg was found guilty of crimen injuria after she called a black police officer the k-word 48 times when he came to her aid following a smash-and-grab incident in 2016.
Meanwhile, Abathembu King Buyelekhaya Dalinyebo and Fees Must Fall activist Khaya Cekeshe were also among the thousands of inmates who benefitted from the President’s announcement.
