SA Rugby has officially named Jacques Nienaber as the new Springbok coach.

The announcement, which has been expected since December, was made in Tshwane on Friday afternoon.

β€œFirstly, apologies for the late announcement. I know we promised that we would do it before the end of December. So the coaching staff are, Russie Erasmus director of Rugby, Jacque Neinaber head coach,” said SA Rugby President Mark Alexander.

Neinaber’s appointment is part of the revised coaching panel which will report directly to Rassie Erasmus, South Africa’s director of Rugby.

β€œObviously I am not stupid, I understand that it’s a risk for me, it might be the risk for the organisation. We have discussed between each other what we are going to do to manage that.”

The new Springbok coaching team:

Rassie Erasmus – Director of Rugby
Jacques Nienaber – Head coach
Mzwandile Stick – Assistant coach
Deon Davids – Assistant coach
Felix Jones – Assistant coach
Daan Human – Scrum consultant
