The SABC 3 soap Isidingo has finally come to an end. It was reported by SABC on 29 November 2019 that the production will be canceled from the airwaves.
The show has been on air for 21 years. Isidingo has been canceled due to lack / low number of viewers which has cost the decline of the revenue for the production. Mr. David Makubyane who is the SABC Acting Group Executive gave a statement to the press notifying about the end of the show.
“The decision to decommission Isidingo was informed by a number of factors which include poor audience ratings during the time slot, decline in revenue and poor return on investment”, said Mr. Makubyane.
“…the organization was faced with no option but to review the performance of all programs on the channel that are not performing and to ensure that the channel’s content is competitive and commercially viable.”
On Twitter, the production prosted a video of their celebration of their production team.
The productions twitter page posted the video with a caption saying “Last week we shot our last Isidingo episode ever. We have been blessed and proud to have been welcomed into your homes for the past 21 years. Thank you for growing with us and allowing us to tell YOUR stories. Tune in as we bid you farewell on the 12th March 2020.”
