Mini South Africa has released a statement confirming that the new peer-to-peer car sharing programme (Mini sharing) will be launched locally later in 2020.
The mini sharing app will be launched in the third quarter of 2020 as a pilot programme in the key urban centre Sandton, Johannesburg
“Mini is taking on a pioneering and innovative role in advancing urban mobility in South Africa,” said Mini South Africa head Shaun Willis. “Mini Sharing creates new opportunities to share the Mini experience and this technology fits perfectly with our desirable cars and our innovative customer demographic.”
Meanwhile, the application allows vehicle owners to grant permission to up to ten people of their choice to open and start their vehicle via smartphone.
After the owner has granted permission, the smartphone becomes the car key which can open the car doors and start the engine by pressing the start/stop toggle switch.
