The city would be built on a 2,000-acre land gifted to him by the President of Senegal, Macky Sall.

The ‘Lonely’ hitmaker Akon announced his final agreement with the Senegalese government to build Akon City in Senegal. The plan is finalized and ready to take on, Akon announced on Monday evening.

Akon spent his early childhood in Senegal before leaving at the age of seven to live in the USA in Union City, New Jersey, his website recorded.

Akon, A gift that keeps on giving

Akon is making sure he puts his money where his mouth is. He also criticizes billionaires who don’t put their money toward similar efforts.

“I always felt like if you have to label yourself a billionaire, I don’t even think billionaires label themselves, billionaires. Because you have no idea [how much you’re worth],” Akon quoted by Revolt TV.

“When I hear stuff like that, it makes me sad in such a way because when I travel I see so many things that happen,” he added. “So many people that need…Things to be resolved. And if you can have a billion dollars sitting in the bank, while you have all these people suffering, it’s crazy to me. It’s like a waste of a billion dollars.”

His website also states that Akon’s global vision is rooted in music, but has expanded to include renewable energy. His “Lighting Africa” initiative put him at the forefront of the Sustainability Movement- an issue that profoundly affects citizens all over the world.

This platform has given Akon a global stage as a multi-dimensional philanthropist, global entertainer and, in his own words, “ a social entrepreneur.”
