The South African Police Service, North West Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Sello Kwena has welcomed the harsh sentencing of eight life imprisonments and 25 years handed down by Bafokeng Magistrate Regional Court in Tlhabane to Matsile Tidimalo Pasca.
The 35-year old is convicted for multiple rapes committed in 2014.
Lieutenant Kwena said Matsile preyed on his victims while pretending to help them at night.
“During the court proceedings, the court was told how Matsile lured his victims while pretending to safeguard them at night. All his victims were on their way home after a night out and hitchhiked on the R104 Rustenburg towards Tlhabane” he said.
The convicted committed his first crime on Sunday 21 March 2014 at 01:30, two ladies aged 18 and 19 were hitchhiking to Phokeng and he convinced them to join him on foot as he was supposedly going the same direction. He later threatened them at gunpoint nearby park in Bester where he raped both of them numerous times.
Matsile the following day, Monday 22 March 2014 repeated the same crime with two other ladies aged 18 and 22 years. In both incidences, he robbed the victims of their personal belongings that included cellular phones and cash.
The Lieutenant also said that Matsile managed to evade arrest, but applauded good investigations done by Captain Mokgatlhe Mokgatlhe which paid off when the convicted was arrested in September 2014.
” Matsile was sentenced after being found guilty of 10 counts of rape and 2 counts of armed robbery with aggravating circumstances. He was sentenced to eight life imprisonment plus 25 years. The sentence will run concurrently” he said.
The convicted was furthermore declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of the Firearm Control Act (section 103 (1) of Act 60 of 2000.
