Orlando Pirates Made A Dramatic Return From A 2:0 Lead By Wits, Penalties Decided The Game
Johannesburg | Orlando Pirates were denied a win on Sunday evening when playing Bidvest Wits at the Orlando Stadium in Nedbank Cup last 32. Pirates trailed 2:0 prior to half-time and came back to equalize.
It was the penalty opener by Bienvenu Eva Nga at 19′ that changed the game momentum. The students added another goal in the final moments of the first half sending Pirates to half-time trailing 2:0, a goal by Deon Kavendji.
The buccaneers were persistent. Pirates fought their way back, scoring 2 goals before the 90 minutes elapsed. Thembinkosi Lorch and Happy Jele helped Pirates equalize with the 69′ and 74′ minute goals consecutively.
Extra-time was added to decide the game. Wits scored the 3rd goal in at 105+2′ minute, a goal by the Mozambican footballer Domingues.
Pirates’ Zakhele Lepasa converted a chance at the 105+4′ minute of the game equalizing yet another lead by Wits.
Bidvest Wits won the match by 3:2 through penalties. Lorenzo Gordinho scored the last winning goal after Pirates’ Kabelo Dlamini failed to score.
