Democratic Alliance interim leader John Steenhuisen said due to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement on the novel coronavirus outbreak facing South Africa, he has taken a decision to suspend all campaign events until further notice.
“It is important that we stand together and do everything in our power to protect ourselves and those around us in order to mitigate the risk of spreading the virus. In light of this, we will be suspending all planned campaign events with immediate effect until further notice,” he said.
Steenhuisen also said that the DA stands ready to play their part in combating the corona virus.
“I welcome the president’s intervention, we must work together with government to help mitigate the harm of this virus to our people, our economy and our future. The DA stands ready to play our part in combating the corona virus,” said Steenhuisen.
The nation is currently dealing with the internal transmission of the virus and 61 cases have been reported so far.
The nation is urged to take precautionary measures to reduce the risk of getting infected by the virus. Gathering of more than 100 people will be prohibited.
