The National Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) said they are implementing ways to ensure that payments and processing of applications is not affected during the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa. NSFAS revealed in a statement on Tuesday.
President of the country, Cyril Ramaphosa announced a state of national disaster in South Africa on Sunday. Ramaphosa said a gathering of a 100 or more people will be prohibited, automatically ruling out the possibility of continuation in tertiary premises.
Many universities, including Wits, UCT, TUT and UKZN have since suspended classes until further notice.
NSFAS says those measures will not affect the bureau’s location of funds to students and the processing of applications.
“NSFAS is cognisant of the fact that students may be concerned that the current pandemic will affect the allocation of their funding,
“We can confirm that NSFAS is implementing measures to ensure that payments and processing of applications is not affected,”
NSFAS said only 50% of their staff will report to the offices to reduce contact during the coronavirus outbreak.
