Deep cleaning for all Correctional centres across the country has begun. This is according to Justice and Correctional Services Minister, Ronald Lamola.
Ministers Lamola and Cele of police are set to elaborate their respective department’s plans on how to effectively implement the Covid-19 Disaster Management Regulations in a joint media briefing today, Friday, 20 March.
Upon President Ramaphosa’s declaration of the National State of Disaster, stringent measures have been rolling out by various state departments to fight the spread of coronavirus.
President also ordered the suspension of visits to Correctional Centres for 30 days. Few other restrictions are stated in what is termed ‘the National State of Disaster Regulations’ as announced by the Minister of COGTA, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma Thursday the 19th March.
Minister Ronald Lamula reiterated how important maximum compliance is during this period.
“We want to see maximum compliance across the country regarding regulations and any failure of compliance will be visited upon by the law enforcement agencies.
We are busy at the various Corrections Centres with the cleaning, with the hygiene processes that will be necessary for us all to comply with the regulations because the regulations says visits is suspended for 30 days. We do not want to take any chance.”
