AfriForum has condemned the government’s policy to provide financial relief to only black-owned businesses that are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ernst Roets, AfriForum head of policy and action said ANC abused COVID-19 to push racist agenda against Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises SMMEs.
“In a letter of demand sent to the department of Small Business Development, the lobby organization demand that the criterium of the emergency funding package for SMMEs which stipulates that only black-owned businesses would qualify should be set aside,” he said.
Roets added that AfriForum will consider approaching the court for an urgent order to have the criterium declared unconstitutional, should the department refuse to adhere to the civil rights organization’s letter of demand.
The civil rights organization CEO Kallie Kriel also said the government’s attempt to abuse the pandemic to reward discrimination of minorities is racist and immoral.
“The government’s continued attack on white people and business in the country in these uncertain times is unacceptable,” she said.
AfriForum is a South African organization focused on the interests of Afrikaners, a subgroup of the country’s white population.
