The first secretary of EFF Godrich Gardee, has resigned as MP and he described salaries that Members of Parliament are getting as disgusting.
“The hullabaloo about salaries of MPs is misplaced. Parliament of South Africa is not an employer of choice, nor does it pay a living wage. I will share my payslip with you and see the truma and torture we are made to go through, whilst public think we are fat cats,” he said.
Gardee also said that no one will aspire to serve the parliament of South Africa, hence it is made up of old people with no skill at all, good for nothing and that the parliament has become a retirement old people’s village.
The EFF MP noted that the reason they wear overalls and boots is to save MPs from expensive suits.
“In EFF we are saved from the expensive suits and clothes. Those red overalls and boots combined cost less than R500 and you use them for five years,” he said.
In response to Journalist Andi Makinana’s statement that MPs pay a handsome R362 a month for a four-bedroom house at Acacia Park in Cape Town. Gardee said there is no four bedroom house for MPs and parliament does not supply kettle and toasters and the houses are worse than RDP houses in a village.
“In fact it’s two bedrooms and very few three bedrooms. Get your facts right please,” he said.
National Assembly Speaker Thandi Modise’s office confirmed that Gardee had submitted his resignation.
