Former Journalist and anti-apartheid activist Thami Mazwai together with his wife, has distanced themself from their daughter’s (Ntsiki) ‘disappointing and uncalled for’ open letter to the president.
Ntsiki wrote an open letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa through her blog platform saying that the President is “putting money ahead of his own people”.
Talking to Sowentan Live, the former Journalist said he believes that the government is doing its best to save the country.
“The efforts by President Ramaphosa and his colleagues show their commitment to our people. I thus, on behalf of my wife and I distance us from the comments by Ntsiki,” He told Sowentan.
Mr Mazwai further stated that he appreciates the efforts done by civil service to stop the virus from spreading.
“I doff my hat to the President for his resolute action to save us from this pandemic, and my thanks to the Cabinet and civil service who are working day and night to stop this virus.”
Ntsiki’s open letter
Ntsiki lambasted the 21-day lockdown and wondered how people are supposed to pay their bills if they can’t work.
She wrote, “Mr President, what should we do with our bills month-end? Most of us live from hand to mouth to be honest. How do we pay for rent, electricity and water when you called for our work to be cancelled, but you continue and will earn your big salaries from multiple BEE incomes?”
