Public outcry over abuse of citizens by SANDF and SAPS during lockdown

The Democratic Alliance leader, John Steenhuisen recently called for an Ad-hoc committee to counter abuse of citizens by the uniformed forces during 21 days of lock-down.

Steenhuisen said current contact of the defense force is not how a defense force operates in a constitutional democracy.

“Those who find the forced squats and push ups being meted out by the SANDF amusing, just think if this was a member of your family. This isn’t how a professional military conducts itself,’ he said.

The DA leader also added that history has shown that it starts with push ups but always ends in a more sinister way, that’s why an Ad-hoc committee of parliament is needed.

Citizens have also taken to social media to express their disgruntlement over abuse of people especially black people in townships during this national lockdown by members of SANDF and SAPS.
