The SAPS in the Eastern Cape has arrested a 32-year old man who allegedly set alight his girlfriend’s house.
Five other people were burned down and died in the process.
Amongst the casualties were his girlfriend of 30, her mother aged 46, her 24-old year sister, a five-month-old baby, and a 34-year old man.
Spokesperson of Police in the Eastern Cape, Khaya Tonjeni says the house was engulfed in flames in the early hours of Monday.
It was a community member who called the police to come to the scene after seeing the man allegedly setting the house ablaze, the spokesperson said.
“We would like to send our sincere condolences as the Eastern Cape Police to the family, friends and relatives of the affected family.
” No one deserves to die in such a painful manner,” Tonjeni said.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Seymour magistrate’s court soon on charges of murder and arson.
Provincial Police Commissioner in the Eastern Cape, LT-General Lisiwe Ntshinga strongly condemned this attack.
