Minister of Sport, Arts and Culture Nathi Mthethwa has revealed that the South African Music Performance Rights Association (SAMPRA) will bring forth the distribution of royalties earlier than what was expected.
Mthethwa said the distribution of royalties which was scheduled for August 2020 will now be fast tracked to April 2020.
“In response to the coronavirus outbreak, the South African Music Performance Rights Association has decided to bring forward the distribution of royalties scheduled for August 2020 to April 2020,”
This development came at a time where artists have cancelled many of their live performances after the declaration of COVID-19 as a national disaster by president Cyril Ramaphosa.
Mthethwa said that development will bring much needed relief for artists.
