The South African Police Service has moved into the Central Methodist Church in Cape Town to remove refugees who have been living there since October 2019.
It is estimated that 500 refugees were seeking shelter at the church.
The refugees will now be moved to a new site in Bellville by buses.
This move is in line with the stipulated regulations of mitigating the spread of COVID-19, which asserts that gatherings of more than 100 people is prohibited.
