The SAPS confirmed the arrest of Impala Chief Executive Officer, Mark Munroe for contravening lockdown regulations.
His arrest comes after the mining company at which he is the big boss sent SMSes to its staff ordering them to return back to work amidst the lockdown, EBNewsDaily reported on Wednesday.
The instruction by SMSes to employees at the mining company ordered them, including non-essential services workers to resume work this week.
According to the Disaster Management Act, only essential care and maintenance at mining companies can be carried out during the lockdown.
Minister of Mineral Resources, Gwede Mantashe has on Thursday said that mining operations may now conduct activities at a reduced capacity of not more than 50% during the extended lockdown period.
Monroe is set to appear at the Bafokeng magistrates court today, Friday on charges of contravening regulation 11(b) of the Disaster Management Act.
