Transport Minister, Fikile Mbalula says in terms of section 18(7) of the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 and for purpose of COVID-19, the validity of learners licenses, driving licenses, motor vehicle license disks, professional driving permits will be deemed valid and extended for 30 days after lockdown.
“During the lockdown period, validity of learner’s license, driving license, motor vehicle license disk, temporary permit, professional driving permit and roadworthy certificates shall be deemed to be valid and shall be extended for a grace period of 30 days after lockdown period,” he said.
Mbalula also adds that the renewal of a motor trade number license during lockdown shall be extended by 6 months from the date of expiry of a lockdown period.
“The validity period for the renewal of a motor trade number license during the lockdown, shall be extended by for a further grace period of 6 months from the date of expiry of a lockdown period, unless determined otherwise by the law,” said Mbalula.
Driving license testing centers and vehicle testing stations will remain closed during lockdown period.
