Tenants of San Ridge Heights, in Johannesburg, Midrand have been threatened by management to be handed over to the credit bureau for failing to pay rent during the nationwide lockdown.
Tenants living in that residence have claimed to be unable to pay rent due to the coronavirus pandemic’s effect on their income.
According to them, power has been cut off for them since the beginning of the lockdown period.
Adriaan Louw, the caretaker, denies ever switching off the lights for the tenants.
Ward councillor, Lerato Mphefo says she spoke to the careteker concerning this issue.
“I told Adriaan it was wrong to switch off the lights for people because they owed. Since it is a private-owned property, they should find an amicable solution. What i know is that there are no evictions during lockdown.” said Mphefo.
