The Premier of Gauteng David Makhura has announced the regional breakdown of COVID-19 cases in Gauteng as of the 8th of April 2020.
Speaking on a media briefing on Thursday said a total of 8005 Community Health Workers (CHWs) and 607 health professionals have been trained to trace contacts and conduct screening and testing in Gauteng.
Makhura announced high numbers for Johannesburg and Ekurhuleni and also Tshwane.
“The screening campaign has been rolled out in all five districts, namely, Johannesburg, Tshwane, Ekurhuleni, Sedibeng and West Rand. The campaign is targeting areas where there is high density of contacts (suburb or township), and areas of high vulnerability,” says Makhura
Johannesburg has the highest cases, credited to its high-density community.

Minister of Health Dr. Zweli Mkhize announced 1845 confirmed cases in the country. Sadly, the death toll has also increased to 18 after 5 more death were announced yesterday.
