A man from the Far-East in Bank in Alexandra was allegedly assaulted to death by the army in Alexandra on Saturday.
The 40-year old deceased’s neighbour says they were inside their yard, having a drink when members of the army instructed them to leave while calling for backup.
“More soldiers arrived”, he said, after which they were badly assaulted.
The neighbour who has allegedly been assaulted together with the deceased testified.
“His eyes were looking in one direction and you could see he’s not breathing, that’s when we called the ambulance, so a paramedic arrived, that’s when they tried to check if he’s breathing.
“They said there’s no activity here, they checked something to indicate the pulse, and that’s when they said this guy is no more.
“When we called the police, the police came, we opened a case of murder, it must have something to do with the beating because the guy was fine the whole day before the soldiers came.”
More reports of brutality by law enforcement has been brought to light since the start of the nationwide lockdown.
