The SAPS has confirmed that premier Sihle Zikalala is being investigated for allegedly contravening the National Disaster Management Act by staging a rally at the Clairwood Hospital on Monday.
Zikalala was reported to the police by the Democratic Alliance in KwaZulu Natal on Monday.
They have said that the premier must account to the provincial legislature as well as being held accountable by the president.
The police in that province says they are indeed probing the premier’s alleged breach of the lockdown regulations.
“I can confirm that the case was opened against a senior politician in KZN who is alleged to have arranged a gathering at a hospital and the matter is with the SAPS and we are currently investigating it in terms of the regulations of the Disaster Management Act,” said Vish Naidoo of the police.
At the same time, the Nehawu union’s Ayanda Zulu has said that premier Zikalala has acted recklessly when he allowed workers to stand on the sun instead of allowing them to perform their essential services work.
