The eNCA news channel faces backlash after their two broadcasters Xoli Mngambi and Jane Dutton in their daily morning show on Monday, 04 May introduced the show by making disparaging commentary that singled out Dr Nkosazana Dlamini from collective government on the decision to ban sale of cigarettes under level 4 of lockdown.
“A reminder of who is controlling South Africa’s narrative right now, not the president, but cabinet minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. How? She used her power and considerable influence to ensure the ban on cigarettes sale remains,” they said.
This commentary was heavily criticized and the ANC Youth Task has also joined in calling for the boycott of the news channel.
“We are particularly annoyed at the fact that eNCA does this deliberately because such a well established media house ought to know that no single minister is capable of taking government decisions alone,” they said.
The ANC YTT also adds that they will officially lay a complaint with BCCSA for this unethical conduct of the two broadcasters.
“We are totally in support of media freedom but remain opposed to gutter journalism as purported by the two broadcasters,” said ANC YTT.
Economic Freedom Fighter’s Commissar and Member of Parliament, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi also slams the news channel calling it a “white monopoly capital”.
“When we told you to stop watching eNCA so that it’s audience numbers drop significantly, you thought EFF was mad.
Nothing will make this white monopoly capital and RamaGordhan propaganda channel change it’s charlatan ways than a significant drop in audience numbers. #BoycotteNCA,” said Ndlozi.
