The SAPS in Qumbu, the Eastern Cape have managed to recover two shotguns and an Mk-47 assault rifle during an intelligence-driven operation that was held by the police at the Kalankomo locality on Thursday, 06 May 2020 at about 05:00, confirmed the SAPS.
An operation by the police was conducted following a shooting and stealing of a chicken at Qotira on Sunday, 03 May 2020, after three men allegedly fired several shots at one homestead and fled with one chicken.
Police say no one was injured during the incident.
Three boys, all at the age of 17 were arrested in the early hours today, for possession of two shotguns with no ammunition whilst a 23-year old man was also arrested after being found with an AK-47 with no ammunition.
All these suspects are expected to appear before the Qumbu magistrates court on Friday, 08 May 2020 on charges of attempted murder and possession of unlicensed firearms.
According to SAPS statement, the firearms will thereafter be sent for ballistic testing.
“Let’s not give criminal space to breath, let us suffocate them and make them feel us,” said Major General David Kanuka, the District Commissioner.
