The South African Breweries (SAB) has already started with the dumping of alcohol.
This follows after it warned that it may have to destroy the equivalent of 400 million bottles of beer.
The company is not allowed to bottle beer stored in tanks due to legislation that limits how much alcohol they’re allowed to keep onsite.
Lockdown regulations prohibit SAB from transporting alcohol not meant for export.
On Friday, pictures confirming that SAB has started the process of destroying the beer surfaced on the net and were met with different reactions.
The SAB last week, sent a proposal to the department of trade and industry on Tuesday, asking that it be allowed to transport packaged beer from its breweries to its storage depots.
Some 400 million beers are at risk of being wasted, and it would appear that the announcement was by no means hyperbolic, with large quantities of the golden nectar streaming down the drain.
