The Mpumalanga SAPS confirmed that a 13-year old boy was shot and killed during a robbery which took place in Clarinet, near Witnank, Mpumalanga, during the early hours of Tuesday, 19 May, 2020.
Lieutenant General Mondli Zuma, Mpumalanga’s Provincial Commissioner has described the act as “Senseless, horrific and heartbreaking.”
According to the SAPS statement, the innocent 13-year old was asleep while his mother was working night-shift when the incident took place.
Two thugs allegedly broke into the house where the boy slept and stole valuable items without realising that the boy had been inside. Information suggests that he could have woken up upon hearing some strange noises.
He then ran into one of the rooms, locked himself up after realising that his life was in danger. After a moment, he began to scream for help and drew the attention of the heartless thugs.
They then went to the room where the boy was hiding, broke the door and began to suffocate him until he was unconscious. One of the criminals shot at the defenceless, unresponsive boy after suffocating him
Police and medical personnel arrived at the scene after being notified by neighbours who heard the screams as well as the sound of a gunshot.
A case of house robbery has been opened and a manhunt was launched by the police.
” We are really disturbed by this incident where a life of an innocent teenager was taken abruptly by these brainless criminals. I have already ordered for their arrest and will use our arsenals to track these men who have no regard for him life.
