Mbuyiseni Ndlozi is outraged by the Gauteng Government’s choice of spending millions building a COVID-19 temporary quarantine at an events center.
Ndlozi says Gauteng Government could have renovated and expanded Baragwanath Hospital and get permanent benefits instead of spending money on a temporary structure.
“The greatest stupidity ever was Gauteng government passing the dilapidated Baragwanath Hospital to spend hundreds of millions building a temporary quarantine at an events centre.
Could have renovated and expanded Bara and get permanent benefits, instead of a temporary structure,” he said.
This follows after Health Minister, Dr Zweli Mkhize announced that additional beds would be added to the national count as modelling projections shows that South Africa could see 40 000 people die from COVID-19 related complications by November 2020.
The projections also shows that South Africa could experience a severe shortage of hospital beds before the peak in cases is reached.
Currently the country has over 125 000 beds available in the private and public sector, of which 4000 of them were ICU beds.
