Mbuyiseni Ndlozi criticizes Professor Salim Abdool Karim, who is the head of government’s Advisory Committee on COVID-19 for re-assuring parents that learners will be safe when they return to school.
Ndlozi says Karim is overstepping and questions on what basis does he guarantee safety in schools.
“I will be interested to know which school do Karim’s children attend. I’m sure he is not saying children of Eastern Cape will be safe from COVID-19 in pit toilets, or in those dilapidated overcrowded township schools,” he said.
Ndlozi adds that Karim’s utterances which guarantees the safety of learners from COVID-19 when they return to school are dangerous especially considering scientific data showing the easy spread of the virus.
“This Salim Karim is dangerous! No one looking at scientific data in South Africa and easy spread of COVID-19, can confidently say they guarantee children will be safe in schools,” he said.
Professor Karim stated that parents should not worry because the statistics seem to indicate that the vast majority of children who contract the coronavirus suffer only mild symptoms.
Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, however went to call Karim a mad scientist following those utterances.
“How about we experiment with Karim’s child first, get Coronavirus and see if he will be reassured since they show mild symptoms!
Truth is, a sick township child can infect their gogo or mkhulu at home. Then what? without access to healthcare, Africans will die! Karim is a mad scientist,” said Ndlozi.
