On Monday, Health Minister Zweli Mkhize, speaking from the Eastern Cape, announced that 12 more people had died of Covid-19, bringing the national total to more than 200.
More than 10,650 people have now tested positive for Covid-19 in South Africa.
Mkhize says that 356 067 tests have been done thus far – and in the past day 14,000 tests were conducted, a new record.
There is a concern about the rapid spread in Eastern Cape, and Mkhize also expressed worry about the spread of Covid-19 at funerals.
There were 4,357 recoveries recorded by Monday, the ministry said.
