Health Minister Dr Zweli Mkhize has confirmed the latest statistics in the continued battle against the Covid-19 pandemic in South Africa.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Health Ministry reported that a staggering 525 new cases have been recorded.
“There are 525 new confirmed Covid-19 cases, with the total number of confirmed cases at 9 420. A total of 324 079 Covid-19 tests has been conducted, of which 16 327 are new tests from those reported yesterday.”Mkhize
Mkhize also noted with sadness that additional fatalities had also been recorded, with the death toll increasing to 186.
“We are saddened to report 8 new deaths, 7 from the Western Cape and 1 KwaZulu-Natal. We have also been advised that one of the deceased was a nurse at Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town. We pay special tribute to this health worker. We express our deepest condolences to the families of the deceased and thank the health care workers who looked after these patients.”

• Northern Cape: 28
• Eastern Cape: 1,078
• KwaZulu-Natal: 1,308
• Free State: 134
• North West: 41
• Gauteng: 1,910
• Mpumalanga: 61
