Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA) Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma announced on Thursday afternoon that churches should exercise strict measures to help reduce the infections during gatherings.
Dlamini-Zuma says 1.5-meter social distance, wearing of masks and sanitising should be exercised during church gathering to ensure compliance with Level 3 regulations.
“This means that we must maintain 1.5metres between the maximum of 50 congregants, should the chosen venue be able to accommodate such. We must all be wearing masks when we attend our places of worship, and the washing of hands or sanitization should be undertaken prior to worship,” says the Minister.
“Our places of worship must be sanitized, and the screening of participants is mandatory. The issued directions elaborate on the other protocols that should be observed,” she added.
Only a maximum of 50 congregants is allowed per gathering.
Dlamini-Zuma says church buildings that are too small to ensure a 1.5m distance on 50 people should further reduce congregants numbers.
Meanwhile, funerals attendance remains at 50 people.
