Mbuyiseni Ndlozi and Somizi Mhlongo have openly blasted a black conscious movement on Twitter known as #BlackTwitter for causing a ruckus on the social media platform and advocating for the downfall of other black people.
Ndlozi argues that this hatred towards the success of black people by other blacks shows that not all that is black is black conscious.
“How is it that each time you cause a storm in the name of blackness it’s when you wish the fall of a black child? How come this #BlackTwitter celebrates blacks falling?
What kind of project is that? Have you seen whites making each other fall? It’s time for #BlackConsciousTwitter,” said Ndlozi.
The EFF Commissar, adds that at some point Black Twitter got obsessed with black on black violence.
“It no longer gave voice to a black child against a system of white priviledge. It stopped conscientising and uniting the black voice. Somehow, it’s mantle became celebrating falling and shaming blacks,” said Ndlozi.
This black conscious movement was scrutinized after a hashtag #SomiziMustFall was created following Somizi’s outcry that he has had enough of hate of black people by blacks and sends a message through a video urging them to stop it.
“Stop it, stop with your Black twitter mentality. And this black twitter thing must also end to have a negative mentality towards black people. It should be about black excellency, support, celebration and should be about nothing, but positivity,” said Somizi.
Somizi urged black people to do away with the mentality of dragging others down.
“Lets change the narrative of thinking Black Twitter is only about dragging people, so and so must fall, so and so must die or be cancelled,” he said.
