Democratic Alliance Gauteng shadow MEC for community safety John Moody says they are deeply concerned about rise in farm attacks in Onderstepoort, North of Tshwane.
This follows seven incidents of farm attacks in 24 hours within a 15- kilometer radius at the Onderstepoort small holding farms.
“Cases of house robbery, attempted house robbery and attempted murder have been opened at the Pretoria North Police Station,” he said.
It is alleged that in one of the incidents, two people sustained head injuries and in another one, an 18-year old boy was shot in the neck.
“These incidents are some of many that indicates that farmers are under attack by criminals, yet ANC government is doing nothing to ensure their safety,” said Moody.
He adds that for too long the Democratic Alliance has been calling on the Gauteng-ANC led government to address the safety of rural communities.
“We have tabled a motion in the Gauteng Provincial Legislation on violent crimes in the province, particularly crime against rural communities,” he said.
Moody says DA calls on Gauteng MEC for community safety, Faith Mazibuko to prioritise these farm attacks investigations and assist the police in these farm areas with additional so that they are able to protect farm communities.
