Wintertime comes with more cravings, increased eating, hunger, and slower metabolism which increases weight gain. On top of constantly wanting to keep on eating or munching. Wintertime comes with a desire to eat more and keep warm. Knowing what to eat is key for healthy weight management and avoiding belly fat or fat in the abdominal or midsection areas.
Here are 5 tips for healthy weight management and keeping belly fat away during winter:
1. Plan your meals and snacks.
Meal planning is key, when it comes to weight management, not only does it help you to monitor what you will be eating. But it also gives you a guideline on what kinds of foods you are actually eating more of, while providing your body with the right foods to remain healthy. Make sure you have at least 2 healthy meals or snacks per day, whether it is a salad, fruit, vegetable or even handful of nuts. Adding a healthy meal or snack is key.
2. Less carbohydrates at night.
Cutting down on the portion of carbohydrates you have at night, while increasing vegetables this will keep belly fat at bay. The high fiber from vegetables, will keep us fuller for longer and reduce the cravings for a sweet treat after dinner.
3. Drink up less calories
Beverages play a key role to weight management, as they have hidden calories and sugar alternatives that we may not be able to read on the food label. By cutting down on the number of beverages we take daily, we can reduce and prevent weight gain. Enjoy more water, which will help keep you fuller for longer and help keep hunger away. Green tea is great for burning belly fat and the caffeine levels boost metabolism. Keep coffee to no more than 2 cups, to avoid keeping you up at night.
4. Reduce the amount of salty treats
Having too much salt can lead to retention of fluids or water weight which gives
us a bloated feeling. Swop crisps for popcorn, rinse tinned vegetables and use herbs or spices for seasoning.
5. Herbs and spices to aid fat burning
Herbs and spices play a key role in weight management as they increase metabolism and aid fat loss. Enjoy turmeric, ginger, cumin, cinnamon and garlic as part of your dishes.
