Eleven people have been arrested following a shootout between the police and an afterparty funeral attendees in Mpumalanga according to SAPS report.
Two police officers got wounded while two people died during that shootout when that afterparty took a bad turn at the Marite sports ground, Hazyview on Saturday.
Involved in this incident was law breakers, who fired gunshots randomly while spinning cars after a funeral, the police described the situation.
Brigadier Leonard Hlathi, spokesperson of police in Mpumalanga, says that this were a group of ‘lawless individuals’.
Police returned fire at the suspects when the group fired at them after they arrived at the scene.
“One of the two suspects who was fatally wounded, was found to be in possession of an unlicensed firearm. During the commotion, police managed to arrest 11 suspects and recover live ammunition,” said Hlathi.
General Mondli Zuma, Mpumalanga police commissioner says that this country is governed by law and lawlessness cannot be allowed to prevail or go unpunished.
He has strongly condemned what took place and described it as, “the unruly behaviour”.
Furthermore, he has wished the injured police officers a speedy recovery.
