The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) have visited Phoenix where tens of people lost their lives during protests that erupted a few weeks ago. The killings happened when the Phoenix community went vigilante during a looting spree that accompanied the protests.
“We have taken over the streets of Phoenix today because our people cannot breathe and continue to be murdered by these racist Indians emboldened by this murderous government of the ANC,” the EFF said in one of the videos they shared on social media.
Followers of the party, led by part of the EFF leadership (MPs Marshall Dlamini and Hlengiwe Mkhaliphi) painted the streets of Phoenix red, accompanied by large police visibility to monitor the protest.
Party leader Julius Malema sent a message of support earlier on, saying they cannot be told how they should fight back by their enemies and the sellouts,
”Imagine taking advice from your enemy on how you must fight them; including black sellouts. An attack on any fighter in #phoenix is an attack on all of us in South Africa and we will respond accordingly,” Malema said.
