Guinea international Naby Keita was caught up in the political turmoil that was effected his home country in recent days following the ousting of President Alpha Conde ,the coup forcing the postponement of Guinea World Cup qualifier against Morroco in the capital Conakry on Monday.
While the Morocco national team and match officials were allowed to departure the country late on Sunday ,land and air borders were otherwise closed meaning Keita remained in Guinea.
The Liverpool Echo report’s that Keita club was reassured the player was safe and stayed in constant contact with the relevant authorities as they attempted to ensure his return to England.
The situation has now been resolved with Keita and many of his Guinea teammates jetting out of Conakry international airport on Tuesday and heading back to Europe.
