Senzo Meyiwa’s brother Sifiso says the 5 men accused of his brother’s death are innocent. This comes after a date was set in the footballer’s murder trial.
The former Orlando Pirates and Bafana Bafana goalkeeper was shot at his house in October 2014.
The 5 men are Mthobisi Prince, Bongani Sandiso Ntazni, Muzikawukhulelwa Sibiya, Sifisokuhle Nkani Ntuli and Mthokoziseni Maphisa.
Sifiso Meyiwa says he had other expectations for Monday’s proceedings.
“Even the minister knows, this team that arrested these was not brought in to solve the case.
“There’s a case that was selected by the police minister Bheki Cele in 2018 or 2019, when they were about to make an arrest and then this team, appointed by the national commissioner Khehla Sitole, came.
“The minister asked them how they ended up as part of the team, they said they were brought in to assist. When they came in, Cele’s team was ready with the real docket and the real evidence. Cele’s team was about to make an arrest, Sitole’s team jumped in and told us they had confessions,” he said.
“They ran to Pietermaritzburg and told us there was someone who wanted to make a confession, where is he? He’s not even among the accused. We were told of many people that were supposedly going to make confessions but they’re not here. This shows perfectly that this is a lie, it’s all made up.
“Even these suspects we know they get a beating in jail to admit to killing Senzo. Their families were promised money. The cops are lying.”
