‘R40mil‘ trended as a hot topic on social media on Tuesday afternoon after one user alleged that a Grade 8 learner from Seanamarena High School in Soweto received a ‘good citizens’ award this morning after she picked up a bag with approximately R40 million rand which she took to the police.
On follow-up, EBNewsDaily contacted the pictured police officer (Constable Malaza) who was with the child said to have picked up the R40 million rand, and he confirmed that the story did not happen.
Constable Malaza Bn said the picture was taken in Mpumalanga Emerlo and not in Soweto. ‘The SAPS in the region gave assignments early this year to the class and we nominated top leaners who were named as the Junior Station Commanders,” said Mr. Malaza. ‘I’m worried that people are already peddling false information about this picture’.
The Seanamarena High School in Soweto could not be reached for comment.
