Eskom has announced that they will implement Stage 2 at 9:00pm on Saturday evening ending on Monday at 05:00am.
The power utility company said this is because of generations’ capacity constraints.
“This loadshedding is due to a failure of generation unit each at Kusile, Medupi and Arnot power stations, as well as a delay of a unit returning to service at Tutuka power station,” Eskom said in a statement.
Eskom added that another contributor was a complete shutdown of the Kendal, power station ash plant due to an electric fault.
“These demands, together with higher demand yesterday and today, have resulted in extensive usage of emergency generation reserves, which will have to sufficiently recovered for the weekend ahead.”
Eskom said the total breakdowns have increased to 14,727MW, while planned maintenance is at 6,711MV oof capacity.
