Mamelodi Sundowns clinch yet another DStv Premiership title — a record-extending 14th championship

Mamelodi Sundowns have wrapped up a record-extending 14th DStv Premiership title, sealing the championship with five matches remaining following Orlando Pirates' failure to close the gap in their midweek fixture. The achievement cements Sundowns' status as the dominant force in South African club football and continues a period of sustained excellence that has few parallels in African club football history.

The Brazilians — managed by a triumvirate coaching structure following the departure of Rulani Mokwena to Europe — have been relentless in their points accumulation across the campaign, dropping games only once in a thirteen-match unbeaten run that effectively ended the title race before April. Their squad depth, meticulous recruitment, and financial resources continue to give them structural advantages over rivals that have been unable to close the competitive gap.

Key to this season's success has been the form of Cassius Mailula and Lucas Ribeiro, whose partnership in attacking midfield has produced 37 combined goal contributions across all competitions. The midfield engine of Grant Kekana and new Argentine signing Emanuel Menendez has also impressed, providing both defensive solidity and creative distribution.

Orlando Pirates, who had emerged as the most credible challenger for much of the first half of the campaign, ultimately conceded too many points in away fixtures and were ultimately 11 points adrift in second place. Kaizer Chiefs finished a distant fourth, their long wait for a first title since 2015 continuing into another season despite significant squad investment.

The CAF Champions League remains an objective for the Downs, who are through to the quarter-finals and are regarded as favourites in the continental competition.
